Facebook

I have had a Facebook account for a few years now (started at the insistence of two peers while working in the department library one day). But I have only really used it for the past year and half. I admit to Facebook-stalking my SIL, as I sometimes garner information about my brother from her status updates. My high school class is also trying to get all former members on Facebook and to join the class group. I realize the social networking value and am working to use it for more than just procrastination. It can also drive me nuts for many reasons, such as those described in the video below.

While at the conference last week, it seemed reasonable for my peers to make comments about who was on Facebook and suggesting that certain individuals should become “friends.” I was quite surprised, however, to have my advisor ask me to be her friend. I understand some parents get accounts to keep tabs on their children, but hers are too young to be on Facebook. Since the conference I am now friends with three faculty members, including my advisor. It feels a little awkward. There's even advice online for how to keep one's boss from viewing material which might be inappropriate for sharing. I don't have anything inappropriate; it just seems like friending professors is equivalent to being peers, which we most certainly are not.

Is anybody else Facebook friends with their boss?
