Being on crutches has led to lovely and interesting encounters.
Waiting for the bus on Friday night, I started talking with a woman who told me about her adventures while on crutches. She expressed her well wishes for my, especially that I would be off crutches before the snow and ice arrive.
As I stood outside an office building one evening, steeling myself to venture out into the cold drizzle, another young woman on crutches came and stood next to me. We got to talking about our injuries and our “tricked-out” crutches. (Hers have a black-and white checkered/chevron pattern running the length of the crutches.) After inquiring as to how I was getting around, she offered me a ride. A coworker of hers was fetching her car and coming to pick-her up. She kindly offered me a ride home since we all live in the same neighborhood.
