Happy Feast Day!

In his homily at Mass today Father chose to talk about the role of the Angel Gabriel rather than the typical focus on Mary. He asked us to imaging what it would be like to be the messenger who might have to tell God that Mary said no. The Archangel Gabriel is God’s messenger angel, and we are all called to carry God’s message to the world, not in nearly as spectacular a fashion as St. Gabriel, but as missionaries in the world, in our daily lives. It was very good, especially for a three minute homily.

This painting is one that Father mentioned in his homily, assuming that everyone had seen it before. (I hadn’t, but it’s another reason to plan an outing to the museum.) I'm intrigued by the fact that he referenced this image of the Annunciation, in which the Angel Gabriel is depicted as a pillar of light, when he focused on the Angel's role in the Annunciation and less on Mary. *shrug*

P.S. It's only nine months until Christmas!
