When I first began thinking about Lenten plans last week, I thought "Why do I need this in addition to everything else (going on in my life)?" But as I have thought through it more I think that I can make it a good thing as long as I allow some flexibility. My emphasis is going to be on prayer. I have a book of daily readings for Lent as I usually do, and I plan to visit the adoration chapel at my parish daily (except when I'm out of town) to read and reflect. I feel called to avail myself of the proximity and availability of adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Fasting from a specific food or type of food is difficult for me as I tend to be overzealous initially, but then it becomes overwhelming and I give up. Instead of abstaining from any single food or class of food, I will limit myself to three meals each day (and a late afternoon snack on nights when dinner is going to be very late). I shall refrain from mindless munching while reading and writing and from partaking of the goodies occasionally found at meetings, seminars, and courses.
God bless you all in your Lenten journeys.

i am actually going to try to give up snacking for lent. now THAT will be very hard!
hope all is well.

I too find it difficult to give up food as I tend to get obsessed about the fact. This Lent, in the food department, I am just giving up cookies (my main food weakness!) and trying my best not to snack between meals.
lotsa love

I can understand how the surrender would/could become overwhelming. I have folks around me who are adding to instead of taking away.....much like you've structured in prayer time at your special place--which I think is a wonderful commitment.
Blessings to you during this Lenten season, ma'am.
