Almighty Eternal God, in Your fatherly goodness, be kind to the soul of Your servant, John. Cleanse him whom You have called from this world of all his faults, take him into the Realm of Light and Peace and into the Community of Your Saints, and give him his share of Eternal Delight in Your Kingdom. God, You Creator and Saviour of all the faithful, forgive all the sins of all Your servants' souls. Let them receive forgiveness through our pious prayer, for which they have always been yearning. For this we pray through Jesus, Our Lord.
Amen.

Lord Jesus, our Redeemer, You willingly gave Yourself up to death so that all people might be saved and pass from death into a new life. Listen to our prayers; look with love on Your people who mourn and pray for their dead brother. Lord Jesus, You alone are holy and compassionate; forgive our brother his sins.

By dying You opened the gates of life for those who believe in You; do not let Your brother be parted from You, but by Your glorious power give him light, joy, and peace in heaven where You live for ever and ever.

Amen.

Most faithful God, lively is the courage of those who hope in You. Your servant John
suffered greatly, but placed his trust in Your mercy. Confident that the petition of those who mourn pierces the clouds and finds an answer, we beg You, give rest to John. Do not remember his sins, but look upon his sufferings and grant him refreshment, light, and peace. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Three

Last week I was battling procrastination, setting up plans to avoid falling into bad time management habits as this new school term begins. I mostly caught up on the outstanding list of things to do and quite please with my efforts. But alas, life has set me back once again.

I’m not a superstitious person. My mother will frequently mention whatever superstition fits the situation, so they frequently come to mind. There's a southern superstition that bad things, especially death, comes in threes. Apparently, when someone dies in the family or community, two additional deaths follow shortly thereafter. Last Monday a former colleague died, ending a year and a half long battle with cancer. On Wednesday a friend of mine found out that her pregnancy was actually twins, but that she had miscarried. And on Friday night my brother died suddenly and unexpectedly.

I have been incredibly consoled by the outpouring of love from family and friends. Those who have offered to tell others because I still cannot say it without crying are a blessing. The prayers and mass intentions offered for my brother and family are gratefully acknowledged. My employers are being understanding and flexible.

At this time, however, I feel lost. I don’t know what to say or do. Good sleep is elusive. Each day I cycle through such a huge range of emotions, hitting several frequently. I am exhausted, but I know that I am loved.

Dandelion

I found a collection of other plant-animal hybrids. These of course are a product of photoshop and not a nifty evolutionary process. But I enjoyed looking them.

It's not easy being green...

Or is it?

Checkout the chlorophyll-using sea slug, part animal and part plant. Scientists make mutants in the lab, but a naturally occurring plant-animal hybrid is so much more amazing.
