Scented postage

Remember when I mentioned this Postcrossing thing back in November. Well, I've really been enjoying it. It's so nice to receive mail which is neither junk nor bills.

I received this lovely card from Thailand a few weeks ago.

This week I received a rose-scented card from Germany. It was damaged in the mail, but have retained a faint floral scent. The sender told me about their new postage. The floral ones, looking just like this postcard, are available as of 1 March.
The secret behind the scents lies in microencapsulated fragrant oils built into the paper they are made of. When you rub your fingers over fruit or flower on the stamp you will be able to feel the charming scent, or you can let the addressee discover waves of roses or strawberries themselves. Germany is not the first country to invent the fragrant stamps. You can check out older examples here.

Now see, I thought it looked like great fun...and it is! Smelly fun, even. :-)
