May Howard, and all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. And may God grant consolation to his family and all who mourn his passing into eternal life.
(Aladar Korosfoi-Kriesch's All Souls' Day, Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest)
I'm never sure how to describe my relationship to Howard... He was married to my grandmother, but step-grandfather doesn't seem like the proper title. He's always been just Howard, or 'Poward' as the littlest of my cousins pronounced it at the time when he and Grandma married. He had been in hospice for less than two weeks, but we had expected several months. Arrangements are being made for a family reunion/wake because he did not want any type of funeral or burial service. *sigh* All the more reason to pray for him.
